If your Firefox profile is saved in C, or where Windows in installed, you’re running the risk of losing it. The Windows partition in your hard drive is the one you reformat in many situations, like when it gets infected with viruses or trojans, or when the computer gets too bloated and slow, or when something goes wrong and you find no way to access except reformatting that partition. That;s why it comes handy plan ahead and save your firefox profile in any other partition.

Now, suppose that you forgot where your profile folder is!
Here is an easy way to locate it:
In Firefox 2 : in the menu bar, click: Tools > Error Console.

– Click ‘Clear’
– Copy the following line, and paste it in the bar at top of the console:

Components.classes["@mozilla.org/file/directory_service;1"].getService( Components.interfaces.nsIProperties).get("ProfD", Components.interfaces.nsIFile).path

- Click 'Evaluate'
- The exact location will be displayed for you.

Here is another way to identify the location of your profile:
- open a new tab (Ctrl+T) and type: about:cache
- at the end of the cache page, you'll find the location of your profile.
