the easiest way to make yogurt at home

Home-made yogurt is fun to make, delicious and saves you money. Here is the easiest way to make it. It takes only 2 minutes to prepare!

What you need:

  • A yogurt maker (with an electrically heated base)
  • 1 litre (1 quart) of milk (any type)
  • half teaspoon of yogurt (as a starter)

    • How to make:
    We will not heat the milk, just use it right out of the carton. Your yogurt maker comes with glass cups. Use one to mix the half teaspoon of yogurt, with a few drops of milk to form a paste, using a teaspoon. Add some more milk and stir. Now divide the mix in all cups, then fill in with the rest of the milk. Put the cups in the yogurt maker, cover, and plug it in. Thats all there is to it.

    In about 6 hours, the yogurt should be solid. Unplug the maker, move the cups to chill in the fridge, or if you prefer your yogurt a bit more sour and tastey, unplug then leave covered in the maker for a few more hours, before moving the cups to the refregerator.

  • Eat plain, or add a teaspoon of bee honey, for added health benefits.
  • Once you made the first patch, always save a half teaspoon to use as a starter for the next production of your yogurt factory 🙂
  • If you find the cups that came with your yogurt maker too small, replace them with larger cups. Any glass cup will do, so long that the lid can cover the maker and rest on its base. Some yogurt makers have higher covers than others. If you enjoy yogurt like I do, choose the one with the highest cover, to allow room for larger, taller cups!
  • The capacity of most yogurt makers are 1 litre (1 quart) of milk. If the one you bought is different, adjust the amount of milk accordingly. No change needed for the amount of yogurt starter.
