5) Read the following passage, then answer the questions:
The earliest man was not so much in need of money as we are nowadays.
He was satisfied with simple forms of shelter, made his rough tools and
weapons and obtained food from natural materials around him.
As he became more civilised he began to want better shelter, more
advanced tools and weapons and comfortable life. As a result, man had to turn
to the skilled people. Thus, began the question of payment. At first, he got
what he wanted by a simple process of exchange value came on the market.
Exchange became too complicated to be satisfactory.
Thus the difficulties of exchange led by degrees to the invention of money.
At first, man used shells then big flat stones and later pieces of metal bearing
values according to the rarity of the metal and the size of the pieces. Thus
money, as we know it, came into beings.

1- When did man’s need for money arise?
2- How did man pay for what he got in the earliest stage?
3- Why did man have to turn to the skilled people?

woman shouted, “You haven’t paid me for my fish”. “But I haven’t had any
fish” he said. If you hadn’t smelled the fish, your food wouldn’t have been
pleasant. They went to the judge who asked the woman about the price of the
fish. She said that it was ten pounds a dish.
The judge said that the traveller must pay for fish. He must hold a ten pound
note so that its shadow falls on the woman’s hand. The price of the smell of a
dish of fish is the shadow of ten pounds.

The Novel (The Prisoner of Zenda)
A. Answer the following questions:
1- How did Rassendyll prevent people from noticing that he wasn’t the real King?
He was clever at pretending that he forgot the rules. His popularity with the people helped hi too.
2- What reasons made Sapt think that the King was alive?
He said that three of Michael’s men were in the capital, so he deduced that the other three were in
Zenda guarding the King. Also, the drawbridge was always up, and no one could enter the castle
without Michael’s or Rupert’s permission.
3- How did the different people of Strelsau feel about the King?
The old part people didn’t want him to be the king. The other part was in favour of him.
4- Why was Madame de Mauban kept a prisoner at the castle of Zenda?
Because she had warned Rassendyll in the summer house against Michael’s evil plans.
B. Read the following quotation, then answer the questions:
“You must promise that you’ll protect princess Flavia from the Duke.”
1- Who said this to Whom?
Rassendyll said this to the Marshal.
2- Where was the speaker going? Why?
Rassendyll was going to Zenda to hunt Michael and rescue the real King.
3- Why couldn’t the Duke become a King unless he married Flavia?
Because his mother wasn’t royal. He was also the younger brother.

لقد أثبتت المرأة المصرية عبر السنين على انها تمتلك القدرة على مشاركة الرجل فى مسئولياته جنباً الى جنب , ففى الماضى ناضلت الى جانبه فى معركة الاستقلال , ولكنها اليوم تناضل معه فى معركة البناء واعادة الاعمار

B. Translate into English:
1 -لوسائل اإلعالم دور فعال في تكوين الرأي العام لمختلف طبقات المجتمع.
The mass media have an active role in shaping / forming the public opinion of the various
strata/classes of society.
2 -يجب أن نحترم آراء اآلخرين مهما اختلفت مع آرائنا.
We must respect the opinions of others no matter how different our opinions are / even if they are
different from ours.
