Gmail service is great, but it is gradually becoming too much of pain lately. Right now, its returning this:
Server ErrorGmail is temporarily unavailable. Cross your fingers and try again in a few minutes. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.
Cross our fingers??? is that what it boils down to? crossing fingers and make a wish, just to read our mail..???
Can you beleive that google would be that much careless about our mail?
This dreadful error page used to be very rare, but the frequency is growing…
Its too scarey, when you depend on such service, to find that you can not access your mail whenever you want to. You now never know if the server is up tomorrow..! Not much reliable? thats not what we expect from a company like google. Gmail service is fine, but I advise everyone to backup their mail ofline, using your favorite mail client (mozzila thunderbird, for example).
Thats why it’s in BETA.
Indeed it is in ‘BETA’, but when people start to rely on your service, it isn’t wise to have it down for ~15 hours. When clearly the error message states: “Check back in a few minutes”, instead, they’ve had it down for many hours. Possibly, instead of a falsified promise of ‘a few minutes’, how about displaying a legitimate error page.
We are approaching at least 24 hours now that its been down this time. Is it just me?
A friend said she can get into hers fine. Mine, no. We are on different servers apparently, and i am unlucky at the moment. Anyone else have any updates?
I didn’t experience any down times lately
Still down…tried multiple computers and browsers. Last time i checked my mail was thursday afternoon.
I’ve had the same problem with Gmail for the last 24 hours. It’s a damn kick in the teeth that Gmail doesn’t make any kind of an update available to the folks who rely on their service. At a bare minimum, they should be posting information on the mail Gmail page explaining the situation and giving an approximate time by which the service will be back up and running. Hell, do it on the main Google page if none of the Gmail pages are functional. But do something.
Seems like some banning or what.
i was unable to loging for last 20 hours, now i clean the cache and cookies and woa i get login page that i was not able to get earlier.
so i put my user name and password and i get kicked out. same error
server error blah blah blah. strangely i asked foe other people to check from their system and they all seems to be accesing it just fine, even just few min back. dunno what’s up with them but it surely there should be a clear message than cross your finger, i have better things to do that cross my fingers, it just that what i need to do is in the email that they not letting me access.
two things….at least i am not alone, unfortunately for all of us….and it is going to be rather difficult to do my performance tonight with my fingers crossed.
At least we have somewhere to vent if they arent going to tell us when they think we may be able to check our mail again.
I lost a mailbox once. the company with the server folded and one day…nothing. i dont like this feeling. is web mail really worth it?
A lot of people are turning to web mail, since broadband, coupled with a service like gmail, made it easier than mail clients. But to be on the safe side, everyone should backup their gmail accounts locally, using their free pop service, and a local mail client, like thunderbird or even outlook express. They would sure come in handy at times like this.
I am encountering the same error message –
“cross your fingers” — and have been since Friday, August 19, 2005 5pm. My two other gmail accounts work just fine; unfortunately, the most important gmail account is on the server that went down, and also contains the entire breadth of my PH.D. research information. I wish I had been wiser to back up locally on a computer or on a hard disk but I didn’t know this problem would last for over a day!
You could also set your gmail account to forward all your mail automatically to another account, as a backup. You’ll have 2 copies of all your mail then, in case one server went down.
Hi there,
it seems that this problem is already quite global. has anybody an idea when (and if) GMail can fix the problem?
I really would need some files from my gmail account – unfortunately I have saved some information just there.
I guess right now we just can wait …
I think this link could be interesting for all of us:
http://www.gmailforums.com/lofiversion/index.php/t11797.html
It seems that it can work after a while again.
… lets hope
I have tried everything on there. I am on mac. cant get in on mine or on a pc. no way no how. almost three days by now. And i was expecting imp emails from folks whosw address is only in gmail. Cant they get it together not to have this problem for so longor at least tell us something other than cross our fingers!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey everyone!
As the most of you I am really pissed off with google because of the last 3 days gmail awfull service!
Since friday morning I can’t get into my gmail account and I was expecting there a lot of very important and urgent work e-mails for the weekend.
I also know people with gmail accouns here, that are functioning normally, without any kind of trouble.
By the way, I am from Portugal so, as you can see, this bad situation is global…
I know it must be difficult for a business company to have so much servers that can “keep” all the millions of e-mail accounts with up to 2Gb, but please…. with their money I think this is a situation that shouldn’t happen for a company with that status….
Does anyone know if they have any e-mail for where we can write asking them explanations and arguing about all of this?
If you know pease answer me for my hotmail account popmarta100@hotmail.com
This is a very tiny e-mail acconut, with only 2Mb as you know, but they NEVER left me without their e-mail service. Hotmail ALLWAYS worked very well for me.
Big kiss to everyone.
The problem seems to be global, but only on one server or something…
I can’t access my account, but some other people I know can.
I hope Google will fix this soon, cause there are mails in there, that can’t wait to long…
I’m from The Netherlands by the way…
Regards,
René
Well…Im in the us – atlanta, GA, and mine still isnt working either. And still crossing my fingers. fun fun fun.
I have been down since Friday as well. There are also numerous threads of people on google groups complaining about the same issue. I wonder if e-mails sent from our contacts during down period will be lost?
Yeah, me too. I’ve been trying for several days. Still no go. I’m in Australia, but I suspect it doesn’t matter where you log in from, it’s just a “server” down.
Hope it comes back up soon
Yeah, i’ve not been able to access my gmail from Friday.
That’s a long down time, 4 days now. I’ve tried diffrent browsers, even different PCs on different connections. I’m pretty sure its a problem their end.
I hope they know about it, because it shouldn’t take a company of google’s resources 4 days to fix!
Hello ppl .. I am one of those “swear by google” guys , but i might rethink my stand now. I havent been able to access gmail since Friday. This sucks and I didnt expect such irresposible service from Google atleast. Anyways, all I can do is wait and when I get in the first thing i’ll do is backup my mail!
The worst thing about this outage is that there is no support email you can send an email to … if anyone is aware of an email address we can write to, please publish that here.
My gmail is back on. Anyone else?
my gmail is working as well! hope yours too!!
warm regards from austria
René
my primary gmail address still has the “cross your finger” server error. after more than three days, i crossed my finger but the server is still down
Now I get the following error!!
Google Error
Server Error
The server encountered a temporary error and could not complete your request.
Please try again in 30 seconds.
Doesnt do much after 30 seconds either!
I was getting the same “Server Error” message since Friday morning. I can FINALLY access my email today (4 days later)! I was completely annoyed and frustrated this past weekend, and I’m still trying to decide if I should keep my gmail or move my email to a more dependable and responsive place.
Im very pissed at google right now, ive been trying to get in since friday morning, this is nonsense. Gonna write a letter to CNN and tell them what a crock of S*** google is so maybe they will announce it to everyone. I dont really like microsoft. But google is worse than them. Anyone else in for writing a letter. D*** gmail.
My primary account is still not working since Friday and the emails i sent on it were returned saying:

I’m getting tired with this kindda service…
I still can’t get in – this is day 4 for me now. Does gmail actaully know they are having these issues?
Its been 5 days for me now and this is bordering on insanity. I have atleast 7 emails that I need to get to in there. I wrote to gmail-support@google.com and got an automated response. Nothing has changed as yet. My worst fear is losing my data … have no idea what i’ll do if that happens
So glad to have some company – misery loves it. I also have been out of Gmail since last Friday but this morning, in desperation, I logged on to my ISP with my daughter’s laptop and “Presto” – I’m in! Still can’t get through with my desktop (running ME!?!?) but I’ve set up Gmail to redirect all to my other email accounts and I hope for an improvement in the near future. Any tips would be of great help.
grrrrhhh. its been four days down now. Im trying tolog on in london – all my colleagues and my second gmail address work. my fingers are getting a little bit red as I keep them crrosed. with no results yet, sadly. sh… !
This is complete crap. I’ve been down since yesterday. I have a friend that works at Google and he doesn’t know what’s going on. I’m glad that I use Outlook to check my e-mail but I have important e-mails that I need to get to and this damn service is not letting me in! I am relieved though that I’m not the only one going through this. So i know I just didn’t lose my account or anything.
I’m staying in Germany at the moment and my gmail has been down since Friday 19th of August, no ******* idea what’s going on there, but it sucks big time!! I got all my mails sitting there for numerous things.
How can you change servers?
Very dissapointed in Google over this. Why is there no acknowledgment of the problem?
I’m moving away from gmail because of this problem. No-one wants to go without their primary email for 5 days without any sort of ‘we are sorting it out’ response.
Finally my gmail account is back and working perfectly
but I don’t apologise google for this bad service because thei took too much time to fix it…
Kisses to everyone here
Up and running.. but i haven’t gotten any new e-mails…. weird…
Ok, the e-mails are coming in now…. i hope this is the last of these problems.
I still can’t access mine
My email is back .. after 6 whole days!! I have been a google fan until this .. now i might change my email. Maybe Yahoo! ..
“Fingers Crossed!”
Wow…sorry to hear about your frustrations and as for myself…my server errors has begun TODAY (8/25/05) My gmail has been down for over 6 hours and by reading most of these posts, im expecting a long delay for myself as well… i tried calling google and they told me to email them at gmail-support@google.com. then they you will get an automated reply. You need to reply back to them a second time and tell them the issue hasnt been resolved. A live person should now handle the case. I replied back…now im crossing my fingers to see if they arent full of shite and will get back to me ASAP. I hope the issue will be resolved. I need to access my email urgently.
Update…after my 2nd reply to gmail support, the issue was miraculously RESOLVED!!! Coincidence???? Hmmmmmm.
My turn.
This is stupid. Just happened at the time when I need the info I have in my mail the most. I am trying Jeff’s suggestion and I hope it’ll work.
.. wish me luck…
My turn as well, never had problems around the 20th but now can’t get in and my business relies on gmail so I’m pretty pissed. I will be sending multiple e-mails to support.
And make me number 3, mine has been down for over 6 hours now and I have already sent multiple emails to support… and I have 3 email accounts that are forwarded to gmail so every contact I have in through gmail. Now what?
mine works now. Maybe luck, I don’t know, but I wish yours works soon. Keep on sending to support. Make sure you reply to the automated message.
And if it actually works with this replying automated messages, I’ve got to say this is pretty ridiculous.
I do hope this is not a frequent thing. I wonder if anybody has had this problem more than once.
in the meantime, good luck!
Cannot access gmail for over 4 hours, just emailed support for first time.
I’m back on!
after 4 e-mails i’m back on. Thanks for the tips.
Has everyone here taken stupid pills? Basically if you are relying on a BETA service for mission critical stuff then you have problems. If you are a company using Gmail then you’re really nuts. Do you think ANY company is using longhorn permanently? Absolutely not.
Also, if your a business on Gmail, how do you think it looks to your clients if your using a free web based email service?
Get a Domain or a time and tested email like Hotmail (I dislike ms as well). Then when Google releases a final of Gmail then go crazy.
I still love Gmail even with the downtimes
Gmail is back down again. Can anybody tell me when it will be back up? HOw do I email service? This is the third long down time in a short time. Is Google going to make this better?
hello everyone
here is what I have discovered about this gmail problem that says to try again later instead of logging in.
This has happened to my wife and I a few times on different occasions. A few minutes ago we were able to log onto 2 of 3 gmail accounts on either of our 2 computers. Now they all work after trying clearing caches rebooting etc.
The problem I think is this, if you have more than one gmail session on one account open and send mail on one of the windows you will get locked out. Once I even got an error message saying I was locked out because of the sent email as a security measure. Before you say you aren’t logged in on multiple windows consider this. Gmail doesn’t seem to time out ever. When my wife finally got into her email account it actually took her directly in without the login screen just by going to gmail.com even after rebooting several times. Also you can browse other sites from your gmail window then “back” and your email is still open and active. I emailed gmail support with this flaw but no response.
Some suggestions that help with this problem.
1. try clearing your cookies and cache. works sometimes
2. change your computer’s ip address also works sometimes but not always that easy.
3. do NOT use the remember me on this computer feature on gmail
4. always log out of gmail when you decide to change sites from your gmail screen otherwise gmail is open in the background.
In summary the inability to log in to gmail, is not a server busy problem, it is an undocumented gmail security feature triggered by having more than one gmail window unknowingly open and sending email. That’s my opinion for all it’s worth.
cdnart@gmail.com
It is the best email client, totally free, give you massive amounts of free storage space and it is BETA! Really… stop complaining. Or go and use one of the other (shitty) webmail services. Or run your own mail server. Or better yet… pay someone to host your email. Then you can complain to them all you like. But take a step back and look at what they are giving you for free before you complain.
Anyway.. Gmail is just simply the best. I’m sure they will sort out this issue soon.
I have 2 gmail accounts, i can log in with the one, but not with the other… its extremely irritating since all my contacts are on the other PRIMARY address…
i agree this is bullsh*t there idea of a few mins has turned in to hours. Instead of cross your fingers there error message should read try again in a few days!
A BIG FINDING…
WHENEVER GMAIL IS DOWN YOU CAN STILL ACCESS YOUR EMAIL BY SIGNING UP TO THE GOOGLE PERSONALISED HOME PAGE, THEN ADDING THE GMAIL SECTION, AND CLICKING A LINK IN THERE FOR AN EMAIL.
I thought that mght be really handy for some people!!!
i live and work around the corner from Google’s headquarters – me and my homies can give them “motivation” if that’s what it comes down to… *clenches fists* – eh?
and if this post is going to get me in trouble, just email my google account – i’ll be sure to get it. *crosses fingers*
Well, I’ve been having this server down the last 3 days too. I tried uploading a 10MB zip file and not sure if that caused a problem. Halfway through I aborted it and then on, could not login.
Like most other people. I’ve been relying on gmail as well. Now, I can’t even setup POP on it to retrieve messages. I have some of my work mails landing up there as well.
Has anybody received a reply if they log a technical issue with gmail? We can’t keep trying now and then to see if its up! Its really frustrating
.
APPARENTLY it’s usless to contact them, even if it’s just a suggestion to improve the service…..Dont get me wrong Im not crying about it, that’s just something that Ive noticed. I love Gmail and Im sure they will have it resolved soon.
hi all
well it was my turn to see the white screen of death today. I’m a film composer (hollywood) living in the uk. I rely on gmail for my file sending and recieving and it is so annoying not to have access. I’m loosing time and money here.
You’d think that in this day and age where e-mail is the number one method for long distance communication, they’d have a reliable system installed from day one.
I hope they fix it soon!
did you try google personalized page?
this comment says it solves the problem of the gmail server error:
http://my2cents.gawaher.com/gmail-server-error.html#comment-94
GAAAAAAH for the first time in over a year my gmail is down too. 502 server error for 3 hours now, and I need it for work.
What’s this “google personalised page” business, then? How do I sign up for it, and will it get me back in?
to personalize your google page, go to: http://www.google.com/ig
here is how to set it up to display your gmail inbox:
1- go to: http://www.google.com/ig
2- click the ‘Sign In’ link (unless you’re already signed in)
3- at the top left corner, click ‘Add Content’
4- next to the word ‘Gmail’, click the ‘Add’ button.
You should now see the 5 latest emails listed. If you click at ‘inbox’ you will be taken directly to your gmail account, without having to sign in there. Wierdy1024 above said it works even when the usual login to your gmail is giving the server error. Try it, and if it really worked, let us know..
My gmail accounts in Microsoft outlook i have been trying to send mails to my freinds but i can`t its showing following error:
” THE SMTP SERVER RESPONDED WITH AN ERROR (ACCOUNT: `GMAIL`.SMTP SERVER: smtp.gmail.com: ERROR NUMBER 0X800ccc60)

I’m fed up! I’m beginning to think twice about gmail and it’s constant server issues! Maybe dishing out so much disc space per useer wasn’t that wise eh Google? I’m having to go back to my trusty ole hotmail account now! Thanks for nothin Google!
can anyone help
i cant access my gmail because it says “Sorry… account maintenance underway…”
this has been going on for more than 24hours
is there any other way to access gmail?
I have not been able to access gmail for a full week now. I have tried every gateway possible. I have cleared my cache, deleted cookies and all the other “helpful hints” google gives.
They also lied to me. I received an e-mail two days ago promising that my service would be returned in 1 minute to 24 hours. 48+ hours later and still waiting…
This is the first time i got the
Server Error
Gmail is temporarily unavailable. Cross your fingers and try again in a few minutes. We’re sorry for the inconvenience.
It lasts for a few hours. I guess its normal since gmail is still in beta.
http://lazy.qs4u.com/index.html
I got the server error.
“I guess its normal since gmail is still in beta.”
I guess you’re a moron. gmail is still in beta because its feature set is still fluid. That doesn’ t make it “normal” to run a service incompetently. With properly redundant failover system, one should NEVER see “server error”.
I’m love this great website. Many thanks guy

Great job guys… Thank for you work…
I am closing a house deal and email is important to me today. My Google account is unavailable. There are no excuses for Google. None. Period. Lame lame lame. I have completely lost faith in a company that really wowed me some of their other tools.
Great job guys… Thank for you work…
I am getting errors about 90% of the time. This is bullshit. Google is a multibillion dollar company that has thrived on being unconvential, that is, more reliable and much faster than other services. Every email I receive goes through gmail first and I can’t afford to “cross my fingers” and wait. A company like Google should never have server errors– can you imagine if their search engine had server failures?! With all the information run through Google on a daily basis you’d think they’d have parallel systems for a simple email program. Incredible.
http://www.google.com/ig
That’s hot.
But it seems like a bit of a conspiracy– forcing people to see more Google content just to get to their email?! I hear executives saying “hmm… maybe our users will click on more ads this way.” Umm… no thanks. Anyone have any suggestions about a better and less dictatorial free email program that works as nicely as gmail used to?
I have another theory. Maybe the servers are down because they are selling our email records to the government. Just a thought. And if anyone remembers what happened with the phone companies (which no one seems to, really convenient to catch Zarqawi last week, ey?) it’s not entirely unlikely.
Very Very nice information here… Thanks

July 17th. The gmail server has been down the entire day. JESUS!!!!!! Can anyone recommend another reliable webbased email service? Hotmail gets too much spam.
BTW, I found this blog via Google. Search seems to be the only service that Google can be relied on…and even that is starting to slip.
I can get into mine fine. Might just be a specific region or country.
Perfect pages… tnx

My gmail has been down a good part of the day. While I was getting error code 766 and “cross your fingers” errors I sent some test messages from my other email accounts. Now that gmail is back up and running, those messages have not come through, and it has been more than an hour! Are they lost in the great beyond?

Hi,
How to get back onto gmail!
For ‘Server error’ try deleting the cookies (from i.e. Tools/Internet Options) then you can get into Gmail fine.

Gmail is down again. been 30 mins now. not acceptable with so many people depending on gmail!!
google needs to build more RAS features!
Dear oh dear. DO NOT TRUST GMAIL for anything important, especially if it involves deadlines!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gmail server is down since from last Twenty four hours.
After opening gmail….it gives server error…
Gmail worked for me this morning. but it is down now!!
fot the first ime my gmail has gone down … gosh! I depend on it too much. Its been like this for some time now. I wonder if it will ever be up again.
Incase any of you is wondering, adding gmail to your personalized homepage does not work. It still keeps giving the error about the temporary unavailability.
This indicates that this must be a problem with the exact server that would be holding my account information or something like that. I hope the google people have been backing up my mail as i sure as heck havent.
What they could give me at this time is the ability to send or recieve any new messages or forward my new mail to an alternate email.
Here is an interesting thing that happened.
I was getting the server error through out the morning at home.
When I came to the office, I raised my PC from hibernation. I saw my gmail inbox already signed in. Now, I can access my email in my office. Whether I can sign in again once I have logged out is something I am not ver willing to try at the moment.
Even one of my 3 gmail account is down for the last 12 hrs …
it keeps on giving the server error and the … error code 766, either of the two … this sucks big time …
yeah man wtf, my gmail has been down all day. now a friend of mine who works for google said that they keep at least 3 copies of everyones mail on various farm computers, so i’m sure are mail is safe, but the authentication servers seem to be down or somethin’. regardless it sucks i depend on gmail way too much.
The server is down again
What is happenning?
I need to get on my email
This is happenning more and more often
Any expectations of when this will b working?
it is pathetic that a sophisticated search company can’t seem to handle it’s mail. didn’t they leverage the knowledge accumalated from being one of the best search engines? there is no excuse for the length of this downtime….i’m already planning on switching back to my old one!!!!!
the Gmail server is again down………. help me plz……
hey can anybody help to get back gmail server on line
its down now……..too bad
ITS DOWN… they are realy getting on my nerves with his story:
We’re sorry, but Gmail is temporarily unavailable. We’re currently working to fix the problem — please try logging in to your account in a few minutes.
WE COULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS….. SWITCH BACK TO AWER OLD ONES!!!
I’ve found that I can at least view my emails through http://mail.google.com/mail/h/ That’s all I can do — it’s been this way since Jan 8th. Friend recommended Gmail but this is not working for me!
After having gmail down with a “server error” for 2 days, I found success by simply contacting gmail tech support (note: you have to respond to the first email with more detail, then I got a ‘we fixed it’ email in less than a day.) My take on this is that it is just a really really low standard of server maintenance, i.e. when 1 or more servers are down, it doesn’t affect everybody but it affects everybody whose data resides on that server until they get around to fixing it. Having worked on Hotmail and MSN for MS, we kept 1000+ servers up and running (and we were but 1 of a number of companies that ran parts of those sites). Occasionally, we had a server down, we knew about it in very short order, and it was a critical emergency until it was up and running; and we had to explain it at a morning meeting at Microsoft! From this blog, it looks like Google has no such standards. AND, the fact that they aren’t up front with this ongoing problem (i.e. “check back in a few minutes” doesn’t cut it) is pathetic.
So everyone who’s reading this, open a second email account if you don’t have one since you obviously can’t have gmail tech support respond to you gmail account and contact tech support. Good luck!
My Gmail has been down since Tuesday, January 23rd and I’m at my wit’s end. I’ve emailed the Google Support Team 3 times, to no avail. Anyone else having recent issues with Gmail?
GMail was down at 2007-1-29 at 22 GMT for a few minutes
In my outlook, i am able to receive mail, but i am not able to sent any mails, because of server problem, this happens to me loooooooong time…… (about a month) error no: 0×800ccc60
Feb 1 7:30AM EST – Error 766 and no access to Gmail using Explorer or Firefox. My experience with Gmail has generally been good…unfortunately now I depend on it for important work email. They don’t seem to offer much help (none) in their “Help Center”
I have had just about enough of these “server failures”. I have been a loyal Gmail user since Sept of 2005 and service is getting worse & worse. Now lately, EVERY day at noon and 4-5PM, I am unable to send or recieve messages or even access my address book.
Ya, I have mail.yahoo as back-up, but all my accounts are connected to my gmail addy…..SOAKS!!!
I suspect that the chat program bundled with gmail has alot to do with these jam ups. I could give a flying flaming rats patootie about chat and want it removed but gmail support remains hidden to me. (URL please?….anybody?)
My guess is, If I am able to shutdown the chat side from trying to connect that my mail will work a little faster. (yes?….No?)
I fingered it out. Switch to “Basic HTML” at the bottom of the page stops the chat from loading & connecting.
Well see if that puts a giddy-up in load times during peak hours.
Okay, I guess it’s nice there’s a forum for venting. I USED to love Gmail. A friend recommended it to me and it has indeed become my #1 web email compared to my old yahoo and hotmail accounts. But if this kinda sh*t happens, even once in a while, it f*cks everything up. What’s the point of even having this service unless it’s going to work all the time.
At least Yahoo and Hotmail have their s*it together.. I think I will not rely on this piece of cr*p anymore. How would the Google employees feel if they couldn’t access their email anymore. F*ck it!
what “Wierdy1024″ said worked for me!
I just wonder…….WHEN will gmail be upgraded from Beta to full version status? GMail has been beta for several years…….
Shultz! Gmail is becoming a real pain.
.
I have been having trouble with GMail for a long time since today afternoon, and it has been over 8 hours since I have been waiting for “a few minutes”.
This lack of response from the so called Internet Giant is pathetic, for it does go in with the quality and class of business practices and technological eminence they propound to espouse.
Even when Google.com Search has problems with the search or the Quality of search, we do not notice because it is not as dear to us as out Primary Email Account on Gmail. The Google Search is not free of it’s share of troubles, but we are free from worrying much about it.
If we file a Class Action Litigation Suit against google, we all should a few million dollars, each!

My gmail has been down for three hours…anyone know how long I can expect this to last.

Client-side problem is totally, hence, ruled out.
Trouble – It is with Google.

Grrr. I thought this was a rare occurrence. After reading these and other threads, it’s painfully apparent that the once customer oriented google has become another staggering behemoth with no time for those of us who legitimized it in the first place.
caca! please try again in a few thousand seconds… been 3 hours like that! whats going on!?

It seems its been like that during most of the day, I started having trouble this morning but at least I could check a couple emails before all the system went down!! Hope they will fix it soon as I really need to check my email!
Where about are you located?
Lucky us that this is happening with the giant Google…
It’s working!!!
just kidding! lol!
I’m down for 7+ hours right now. The server errors are becomming more frequent and longer lasting.
There is no way to get a status update.
THIS S*(KS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beta is right – no where near ready for prime time.

Nice to find someone with a sense of humour, esp at own self!
And own help-less-ness.
How sad can a person get when he or she is unable to access his or her Email?
If there is anyone interested in doing such a research, there are enough subjects here, and mighty Google too!

unfortunately not for me =(
Whoa!!! Gmail has been unavailable to me since about 7:45AM Texas time (that’s Central Standard Time) and it is still unavailable. So it is just about three hours since I have been able to check email. Someone send me an email message when the server is up and running again! Thanks. :’(

Poor HotMail.com had only 2-4MB earlier and we re-buffed it, laughed at it, when Gmail came in with 1GB. We even mocked Bill Gates for having only a 2 inch dick.
But we all forgot to see how dependable old HotMail was. And in time, hotmail grew to give over 1GB of storage space in itself. Something are like Wine, they get better with time, and somethings are like cars, they feel better with time, and some things are like women, if they look gorgeous, they will attract you for a while and then ditch you in a ditch. Only a lady who is time-tested will stand by you no matter what. Only a wine that has withstood the time will taste what it is. Only a car well driven, will drive well when you want it. And it seems that Hotmail.com is doing all that, that too with the old affection of a mother!
Gmail is still NOT working !!!!

What you want me to do? start crying? come one man it’s a beta! yeh I know it’s been beta for a few years… but for its free 3Gb at least for me it’s worth it, if you are doing business with the gmail account it’s at you own risk mate… so stop crying!
Oh good, it’s not just me. I’m on the East Coast US and have been getting the server error message since last night (about 15 hours ago). Tried browser cache and all that, but no luck. How long did this last the last time???

Oh Friend! How shall I do that with Gmail down?
And how shall you see it with Gmail down?

My gmail server is down again. But this is the kicker, if I open another account then I have gmail and the server is working fine. I am not a genius but if the server is down, how can I get another account and emails??
Jan
Obviously there are many servers! for some reason some of them went down with some accounts… could be that some people starts having access to their accounts again, but we have to wait till they fix “our server”
Come on! no all the gmail accounts are located on just one single server lol!!!

A service being BETA does NOT mean that it must be made un-reliable.
In fact, how many will make a statement of something being a “beta” if it had been by Procter&Gamble of GlaxoSmithKline trying out a new medicine for Cancer prevention or cure?
The point is that something’s being “Beta”, “Trial” or “Testing phase” does not in itself make it free to be prone to technical errors which are easily avoidable with a little extra-care and attention. And a good Customer Service Dept. too.

I have access to my other gmail account, so we will have to wait till as I said the server where our account are located it’s fixed.
Hope will be soon
Take it easy!

Hey BB: Thanks for acknowledging the humor in my message.
The last time I checked email was about 11:00 PM (CST) so that was just about 13 hours ago; when I tried to log on this morning, the server was down. So, all that the longest time I can atest to for the errant server is not longer than 13 hours.
Anyone watching the world stock markets? I am weary of hearing all the negative news on the broadcasts. It’s just a market correction, that’s all, just a correction!

There was a time when we used to play and laugh all day, and the internet didn’t exist. Now, the email is unavailable for a few hours, and we wander around and don’t know what to do. Our ancestors would be so, so very disappointed.
I totally agree Carolee!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Google just informed it’s closing the gmail section due a faulty problems!!!!! all users will lose all their data as a result of the fault.
Google apologies and says gmail was beta and people was already informed.
WTF!?
hahahhahaha just kidding lol!
I’m bullshiting it!
It’s a relief to read that others are also experiencing the same problem with gmail. Does anyone know if there is a way to access the emails from other accounts (when nothing has been set-up)? Could I open a yahoo account, and try to pop my emails? I have work emails that I must access- any advice?
Thanks.
I just found this forum after 16 hours of not being able to log into my gmail account. Like others, I first assumed that this was a general problem until I got to work, asked around, and realized that I’m the only one who does not have access. I’m in NY and my other accounts are working just fine. I’m e-mailed Google and just received this message:
Hello,
Thank you for your report.
We are aware of this problem, and our engineers are working diligently to
find a solution. We apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have
caused.
Sincerely,
The Google Team
Ugh…I’m incredibly frustrated…
Same here — I thought it was a comprehensive gmail problem and assumed that maybe even news networks would be picking up such a monumental gmail failure (going on 15 hours for me now). Apparently it’s only the chosen few (thousand? million?) of us, though. How am I supposed to get any work done without the distraction of my non-work e-mails?
Glad it is not just me, I am in France and no email (error 767) for 12 hours now.
I have my old emails because I used POP to Outlook but although outlook still runs nothing new has been delivered there either.
Graham
I had some outages yesterday but now its completely down..I cannot access my account..it gives
Server Error
We’re sorry, but Gmail is temporarily unavailable. We’re currently working to fix the problem — please try logging in to your account in a few minutes
I am in India..my other email accounts with gmail works only one account of me..All my friends accounts all working fine..I dont know where to report this problem
-Vasanth
Ah I’m in the same boat as all of you guys. It’s quite frustrating, especially since I need that account for work and other things. Last time I tried to log on I think was sometime @ noon yesterday
It’s a pain in the arse! Been sending a lot of CVs and I’m waiting for answers back! Am I gonna lose all this emails which people could send me while my account was down?
Catalonia (is not spain)
the problem is on one a few server which are dealing with our accounts.
When did you get your accounts? about 2 years ago?
sorry i meant thats the problem is in on or more than one server.
For me it’s 22 hours without gmail and counting.
Frederich brings up a real concern though: Will we receive emails that were sent during the period when the Gmail server(s) was down? Losing email access is one thing, but I’d be marginally relieved if I knew all my emails would be waiting for me when I can finally regain access. Does anyone know what happened in this regard in the past?
i’m having the same problem with one of my email addresses. the other 4 are working fine.
it’s crazy, because that’s the email i need to check the most.
I have had this issue as well today, i cleared my cache and it let me back in. BUT i have had no new emails for some time. I can view existing emails etc…, but i sent myself a test email from my own mail server and haven’t received it.
I did the same thing. I was recently able to access my Inbox for just a few minutes, but I only had one new message. The test message I had sent three hours earlier from a different account hadn’t come through. A friend of mine also told me he’d sent me an email, and I hadn’t received that either.
And now I can’t access my Inbox at all anymore. This is infuriating.
it’s fixed

=============================================
Hello Everyone!
My Gmail was down for over 24 hours!
=============================================
BUT I FOUND A WAY TO CRACK INTO MY INBOX!!!!
I DISCOVERED IT BY CHANCE!
=============================================
=============================================
I AM SO RELIEVED THAT IT IS WORKING NOW ( GMail is my PRIMARY PERSONAL EMail ID).
If you have any previous BookMarked Gmail Inbox link with all the lengthy meaningless codes appended to it at the end, then try opening Gmail using that link.
It seems that GMail Authentication server cannot re-direct properly to the Mail Data Server, which may be the real cause for our not being able to access our Inboxes.
But when, instead, we, ourselves, provide that re-direction link, the Data Center is able to retrieve and generate and give us the Inbox page. It appears to be problem of improper re-direction to Data Location by the Authentication Server. And this has to be the precise reason for our being able to access all our other Google Personalized features, but not GMail, because Google is able to redirect to the correct location for those data in the data banks.
=============================================
NOTE :
1. Gmail is NOT working when I Log-in normally from the GMail homepage.
2. It works only by opening previously bookmarked links to GMail.
3. Step 2 is possible only after singing-in to google, and getting Google cookies enabled.

Dear Friends!
I hope that the previous post must have helped you, as well, as it has done for me.
PLEASE DO POST HERE AND LET US KNOW WHAT WORKS FOR YOU, AND WHAT DOESN’T.
Let us be together in this Trouble Shooting and alleviating phase of Gmail’s inaccessibility; and find solutions where possible, TOGETHER – in the Wiki Way!
It was a relief to find this page and know that I was NOT ALONE in this ordeal of being unable to access my Primary Email where I back-up all my data, since I do NOT have a Computer. And it was tough, since all my critical data are on GMail only – but I am going to back them up somehow, though I have not decided how as of now.
This was an awesome page in the troubled times of need.
LET US HELP ONE ANOTHER IN THIS TIME OF NEED AND TRIALS!
Forever,

NOTE:
Gmail is NOT working still, when I try to Log-in in the normal way through the Gmail Log-In Page.
It still gives the same error!
But I CAN MAKE IT WORK IN THE WAY I HAVE SAID ABOVE!

Im not sure how long it was down but ive been trying to go to the gmail web page it self for about 30 mintues and the page “didnt exsist” lol. i typed it over and over, even typed it in google and clicked on their link to get to it and it didnt exsist lol.
its finnally back up. God its the first time its has problems like this in a couple years now.
I logged into my account today, and was shocked to find all my mail in my inbox was gone. Has this happened to any of you?
my gmail hasn’t been working for five days now… any breakthroughs?
i just download thunderbird but I’m not sure I put the information in right for gmail… does anyone know how to do this?
5 days!? incredible!
This is what I’m currently getting:
Parse error. unterminated string literal at ./cs/caribouroot/java/com/google/caribou/ui/fin/jsdata/prefetch.js line 196:
” PF_cache_[PF_prefetchUrl_]);
Parse error. missing ) after argument list at ./cs/caribouroot/java/com/google/caribou/ui/fin/jsdata/prefetch.js line 197:
} catch(e) {
Parse error. ‘try’ without ‘catch’ or ‘finally’ at ./cs/caribouroot/java/com/google/caribou/ui/fin/jsdata/prefetch.js line 217:
TL_UpdateLabelCounts(threadid);
And my mail client (mac mail) can’t get pop access, either.
This is a bit worrying….
just lost my email around 12:30. it’s been 2 and a half hours. *(^&^$ this sucks!
this email is far from any respective email provider i decided not to use it again forever as i’m trying to check mail since morning march 20 2007 and the whole serveice is down
AHHHHH! My mail was down the other day for 10 hours and now my gmail is down again! Someone even told me that they are getting bounce backs from my gmail! This is crazy!
I haven’t been able to access even the Gmail login page for 5 days now.
I just went onto the pc 5 days ago and was greeted by the white error page.
I am based in the UK, my ISP is ORANGE.
My sister’s ISP is BT/YAHOO, yet she can access Gmail with no problem whatsoever.
I can access my Gmail via my mobile phone (but this is an expensive & pointless way of doing it).
Perhaps if further postings start to list their ISP’s, we might be able to see some pattern forming here.
I have made mutiple attempts to contact Google – All met with looped answerphone messages that get me nowhere, and emails that are responded to (if i’m lucky) with pre-formatted answers that aren’t helpful.
Another thing that I have noticed is that when i use google to do a net-search, the first page of results consists of a handful of irrelevent results (usually containing the words you searched for, and directing you to sites to buy stuff) and the rest are labelled along the lines “similar results, cached”. Only when I goto the next page do the search results start to make sense….
I am seriously disappointed by not only Googles performance, but moreso by the lack of information & help. These guys are f*cktards! I was “bigging-up” how good Google was to other people & convincing them to get accounts – What a big mistake that was…..
Me too … I haven’t been able to access even Gmail login page since yesterday. I’m located in California. Any idea when will this be resolved?
Sorry, I have no idea
I have just returned from a trip into London today (I went to an internet cafe – Had no problem accessing Gmail there – So I tweaked my account details to allow me download via POP……Just tried to do it & the damn thing doesn’t work…….
I’m in California as well and it’s still down.
site is down here in NY
Getting this message here in NYC : We’re sorry, but Gmail is temporarily unavailable. We’re currently working to fix the problem — please try logging in to your account in a few minutes.
Down for 2 hours… What’s up???
Site has been down for 3hrs here in Tallinn, Estonia. It just goes to show, that none are imune to Murphys Law. Lets “keep our fingers crossed”!
Yep, mine’s been down for a couple hours now. I’m just hoping it doesn’t turn out like this guy’s: http://blog.outer-court.com/forum/22209.html
Well, it’s fixed now, not sure what happened, but thanks for the support!
